Welcome to our website.  O’Brien Nurserymen, LLC was founded in 1984 as O’Brien Landscaping, Inc., a design-install landscape company.  In our infancy, we specialized in pruning and providing our customers with unusual specimen plant selections as well as a personal touch.

As the years passed, we found ourselves mostly working in the shade, so a natural evolution for us was into hosta gardening.  Hostas were not just a product we offered, they turned into a passion.  We started collecting hosta as well as joining many different hosta societies.  At one point, a friend said, “Wow, you have so many hosta you should sell them!”  That’s when the light went on in the Polish side of my brain and I said, “Yeah, you’re right!

Now, O’Brien Nurserymen, LLC has grown into New England’s premier hosta nursery.  Our extensive display gardens feature over 1,600 hosta varieties as well as other shady characters including asarums, pulmonarias, epimediums, and arisaemas.  The gardens also include a wide variety of unusual dwarf conifers, as well as over a hundred varieties of Japanese Maples.

 O’Brien Nurserymen is open for retail sales on special weekends from April thru October.  The sales area features over 900 hosta varieties in containers ready to go, as well as many other choice shade perennials that help complete a shade garden.  The sales area also has many other gems, like the aforementioned dwarf conifers, Japanese maples, daylilies, and daphnes.

 We prefer our friends to visit the gardens and pick out their own selections on one of our Open Garden Days.  We understand that this is not always possible so we now mail order our hosta plants.
