Pine in Barn Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 March 2011 20:56

Here at O'Brien's you can tell when spring is on the way, because the plants try to break out of the barn, where they have spent the long winter. In the scene pictured below check out the Dragon's Eye Pine taking a peak from the barn to see if it is safe to venture out of doors. The snow is almost gone and we are ready to start preparing the garden beds to display our plants that are for sale.

Flower Show Print E-mail
Thursday, 03 March 2011 20:48

Last week we represented the Tri-State Hosta Society at the 2011 Connecticut Flower and Garden Show. It was fun to see so many friends and to meet so many folks that have an amazing interest in Hostas! An annual event for us, we always force a Daphne odora 'Aureomarginata' for the show and now it is filling our house with it's wonderful aroma.

Now that the show is over, we wait patiently for the snow to melt. We have updated our hosta lists on this website and hope to soon get to the companion plant list. We have recieved our postcards and have started the process of stuffing three thousand envelopes with our 2011 newsletter and postcard. Any volunteers to help?

We are glad it is March and have noticed the longer days already. Now about all that snow, just a little more than a month 'til our first open house. WOW!

Hello,

Has anybody got some snow to spare? We certainly have our share, if you need some come and help yourself. The loading is easy just back up to a building and we can shovel a roof off into your vehicle.

January is almost over so it is time to start updating this website. As you may have noticed the 2011 Open Garden Days have been posted. We will be working on our 2011 plant lists in the next few weeks. Look for many exciting new offerings as well as returning favorites.

Saturday, 10 July 2010 10:20

dayliliyclose_smOh my hot & dry it must be July. It is also daylily season, maybe two weeks early, yet they are blooming to beat the band. We collect the daylily blooms each morning and display them on our tables so you, our customers, can get a close look & comparison of color, size of bloom, etc. Most varieties are in containers and ready to go home with you when you visit. Others will be custom dug for your next visit. We hope the temperatures drop below 90* so you might be inclined to come for a visit.

 Happy day!

Thanks for checking us out online.  I hope you enjoy the new format and updated information.  Special thanks to Bob Fisher, our webmaster, for all his help.  The hosta, perennial, maple and conifer lists were all updated in February 2010, so there have certainly been additions as well as a few things we sold out of since then.

Enjoy your day today and we hope to see you in our gardens soon.
